In the Summertime, When The Weather Is Hot....

1) Remember how I posted about Psych last week? Well, the USA Network took notice in an attempt to pry me away from The CW and extended the freshman dramedy to another three episodes and basically guaranteed it a second season. I'm unaware of what the ratings are in comparison to some of the other summer cable hits of the past, but this is very good news for anyone who likes to have their late breakfast on Sunday mornings with a helping smart, funny crime procedurals. Considering we usually spend our time on this blog hoping and praying shows get picked up - Arrested, Veronica, The Loop - it's nice to not have to worry about such things.

2) We finally have a name for the new Batman movie which looks to maybe be out in 2008: The Dark Knight, in which Christian Bale's brooding superhero goes one-on-one against the Crown Prince of Crime as performed by...Heath Ledger? Nolan deserves the benefit of the doubt, and the general consensus seems to be "Hey, not too bad" with a bit of "inspired casting against type". (I'm okay with this, despite the fact I would have loved to have seen Mark Hamill, Johnny Depp or Michael Keaton here. Still, not complaining.) I'm slightly worried that they're apparently looking at dual villains, even if it is Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin, as the more baddies you throw into a superhero movie, the more you see the margin of diminishing returns (Business people, is that the correct use of that? Maybe? Who knows?). Three of the best - the original Batman, Spiderman and Spiderman 2 - only had one, and they were great. Still, in Nolan We Trust, at least until he screws something up.

3) In a move that not only affects the Big XII and natoinal championship race, but also the Heisman race, Oklahoma has apparently dismissed incumbent starter Rhett Bomar for getting paid for a job he didn't do. How does this help out Our Fair Brady? Well, with seemingly no quarterback to keep defenses honests, teams can use the same strategy as last year and just stack the line against 5th-dimensional demigod Adrian Peterson. Still, it's possible Stoops can find a replacement and Peterson still runs for 200 yards a game, but until this is hammered out, we can turn our attention to the best way to detail one Mr. Troy Smith...
