Game Seven Pick, Then Nonsensical Ramblings

Dill called me today while we were driving home from work. I was attempting to find an alternate route around the 66 construction, nimbly bouncing down some road between Ash’s house and Space’s Corners. He confirmed that we were going to Gina’s tonight for the game, then I asked him who was going to win it. He said the Heat, because it was so hot outside, and that if they were playing the WNBA’s Seattle Storm, he didn’t know who he’d take. (For those of you not in Western PA, our weather today alternated between sweltering heat and hailstorms. It was fun.) He then asked me who I was taking.

“I don’t know. I’ve got to think about it some more.”

“No, now!”

“…then I’m going to have to take the Heat.”

That’s what happened when I had to pick with my heart, because deep down I know that if either Shaq or Wade are 100%, and that if the Jones Boys shots are dropping then there’s no way the Pistons can win down in the city where the Heat is on. Officiating will have a lot to do with it, and if Flash isn’t healthy, then things could get very slowly on the offensive end for Miami, which is not good against the Piston D.

I’m not factoring in that Detroit has been inconsistent all series (come on, now, this is a Game Seven), but I have to look at it simply that nobody on Detroit can do what a rolling Shaq or Wade can. Shaq’s been waiting for that 35 and 13 game, and I don’t know if he gets that tonight, but he’ll get enough. He needs Wade healthy, though, because one man can’t bring down the champs.

Two, however? Now that’s a different story.

How great is Thursday night going to be? MTV Movie Awards and Game One of the Finals? On one night!? That’s what the Dual TV’s were set up for, my friends.

Bruce Campbell is coming to the Oaks Theater in Oakmont, my new favorite place in the whole world, on June 23rd, and you’ll be hard-pressed not to find me there to see him debut his new movie. We went down there on Saturday night to see Layer Cake - a pretty good movie, crappy sound in the theater (it’s only flaw) and thick British accents combined for some awkward dialogue at times, but it was an enjoyable heir to Snatch and Lock Stock - and it was great to see that Pittsburgh has a charming little indie theater. I highly recommend it, and you can find the website here.

I often wondered to myself, “Wow, Nick Lachey, you put up with a lot of crap. Is Jessica Simpson really that hot that it’s worth it?”

My question is now answered without Nick having to say a word.

We’ll talk a lot more about the NBA Draft closer to June 28th, but what happens if Marvin Williams and Andrew Bogut (who I'm now all about after his rip on Kobe) go first and second in some order, leaving the Trailblazers to take Chris Paul, the other “Top Three Prospect” in the draft. Only thing is, they can’t take him, not with Sebastian Telfair on their roster, but they also can’t let him fall to the Bobcats, who really want him, for nothing.

Maybe they do take him, but I’m thinking either he’ll go first or second or there’s a trade. Two point guards with a combined age close to forty? That cannot be good.

Batman’s going to be awesome, Fantastic Four is going to suck, but I seriously want someone to give me their opinion on this, because I have no idea:

War of the Worlds - Yes or no?

How bout them Buccos? 5-2 against the NL East-leading duo of the Marlins and Braves, doing enough damage to them that the Nationals are now in the first place, the first time a Washington team has been in this position this late in the season since 1933. The AL East-leading Baltimore Orioles come to town for three tonight, with Sir Sydney Ponson going against Josh “Trade Bait” Fogg. We’re going down Wednesday night to see Kip “Hey, I’m Trade Bait, Too!” Wells against Bruce Chen.

Sort of a step down from seeing the D-Train last Thursday night, but it’s still PNC and the Pirates are currently only four games back of a freaking playoff spot.

If you can find me a better combination than “driving down the road on a sunny day, windows down and “Everyday Is A Winding Road” blaring” that doesn’t involve The Eagles, “Interstate Love Song” or Everclear, I would love to hear it. You can take that as a friendly challenge if you like, as I enjoy any quality cruising music.

I was so freaking good at work the first two weeks, I’m quickly running out of stuff to do. I’m going to end up washing vehicles and windows soon enough, as I’ve already pounded through cleaning all aspects of the store room that doesn’t involved taking everything off the shelves and all kinds of paperwork. And still, after two weeks, there’s no Mountain Dew in the vending machine. That sixty-five cents in burning a hole in my pocket.

However, I’m more than confident I can now install a drop-down ceiling
. I really want to try this at some point in time, because I know after today that those stupid tile are a lot more fragile than they look.

Three quick high-school notes:

1) Congrats to John and Franky for their senior class presidency and vice presidency.
2) Graduation is tomorrow night, so an early congratulations to the Class of ’05. (Don’t worry, there’ll definitely be a Herd vs. Floggle Debate coming up at some point in time.)
3) Apparently last year was the final one when you didn’t put your picture on your grad invite. There’s like 25 of them taped to the French door in our dining room, and I would say 20 have photos on them. Makes me feel crappy about my cheesy little cards, but hey, you live and you learn.

Peter Winter is safely back from China, bootleg copy of Episode III in tow. His gift for me is in the mail, and if it’s what I think it is, the postal service won’t be able to get it here quick enough.

I think I’m going to save the Office Space quotes page to my favorites for use on Mondays. But hey, Monday’s most of the way over. Everyone have a great week.
